Hunter Valley Branch Celebrates Community at Annual Christmas Gathering
The Hunter Valley Branch of the Laryngectomee Association of NSW recently hosted its annual Christmas Party at the Mayfield Bowling Club, welcoming more than 100 attendees for an evening of celebration, connection and reflection.
Laryngectomees were joined by their partners, family members, friends and valued medical staff from John Hunter Hospital. Guests enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner, desserts and refreshments, followed by a lively tombola raffle that ensured plenty of smiles and surprises throughout the night.
A standout moment of the evening was a heartfelt performance by the Out of Silence Laryngectomee Choir. Founded earlier this year through the inspiration and leadership of branch member Brian Joyce, the choir performed a moving arrangement of Silent Night along with an original song written to honour survival and life after surgery.
The evening was a powerful reminder of the strength of fellowship and the importance of staying connected. Events like these highlight how shared experiences, encouragement and community support help laryngectomees continue to participate fully in social life and remain engaged within their communities.
The Hunter Valley Branch looks forward to building on this spirit of connection in the year ahead.
