WESTERN SYDNEY LARYNGECTOMY EDUCATION DAY

On Friday, March 22nd, ATOS Medical orchestrated an enlightening Education Day for laryngectomees at the vibrant Atura Blacktown. Under the banner of ‘Uniting Voices Beyond Laryngectomy’, the event promised a blend of education, support, and a celebration of strength and resilience. Inviting local speech pathologists and clinical experts to delve into crucial topics surrounding Laryngectomy, the day aimed to empower attendees with knowledge and camaraderie. Subjects covered included, Lung Health, Swallowing, Skin and Stoma Health, Optimising Communication, and Mental Health Wellbeing followed by a lively Q&A session.

Kicking off the event, Glenn Murray, ATOS Medical Regional Sales Manager, set the stage as the master of ceremonies. The day unfolded with captivating presentations from esteemed professionals including Molly Reilly from Liverpool Hospital, Megan Lei representing Nepean Hospital, Lydia Natsis from Westmead Hospital, Danielle Stone of Royal North Shore Hospital, and Alan Spinks of ATOS Medical. Matt Harris, ATOS Managing Director ANZ and Korea, along with Curtis Woodward, ATOS Customer Care Team Manager, also attended this inaugural event.

The presentations proved to be both engaging and insightful, catering to the diverse needs of laryngectomees and clinicians alike. Each speaker generously allocated time for questions and fostered an environment conducive to the sharing of experiences. This allowed laryngectomees to connect, exchange stories, and impart invaluable tips for navigating life post-laryngectomy.

Buoyed by the success of the event, ATOS Medical is committed to replicating this educational initiative in both the North and South regions of Sydney in the near future. Keep an eye on this space for updates and seize the opportunity to attend in person. Personally, I found the day to be enriching and immensely worthwhile.

Join us in this journey of knowledge, support, and empowerment. Together, let’s continue to unite voices beyond laryngectomy.
